Turning Your Garage into a Party Space

Most of us have dreamed of having a room where we can have family and friends over to watch a football game and enjoy a simple get together. If that sounds like you and you are stymied about how to reach this goal, why not fix up your garage? Here’s some simple ways to make it happen.

Consider the Options

For most of us, every room in our home has its own use. Even though you don’t think of it this way, your basement does too. It may be a laundry room, play area for kids, “man cave” and so on. It is likely that your house is taken up with other assigned uses, and the garage may remain the only place available to pursue hobbies or past times or socializing.

If you think about it, there have been many TV shows and movies depicting characters in the garage watching a sporting event, regular TV or just hanging out. It’s true, though that your garage could be the perfect spot for a weekend poker game, TV viewing spot, and more.

If you set it up properly, a garage can become the ideal spot to relax with friends after a hard day or week of work. Just leave the car outside for the night and turn that area of the garage into your party space. Of course, it has to begin with the garage being emptied of clutter.

Start by figuring out the best ways to store tools, sports accessories, gardening supplies, tires, bicycles, and other belongings. They can go to the shed, the basement or even be given or thrown away if you find you don’t actually use them.

Then, look at the remaining space and figure out how it can be best used for your intended purpose. If it is gathering with friends, find seating, make sure the entertainment system has a stable spot with plenty of electrical connections, and add a table with some snacks and drinks. You can use folding chairs, outdoor seating and plug in or use some speakers to enhance the experience.

The Biggest Window Imaginable

Should you be gathering with friends in the hotter time of the year, you can keep garage door open to savor any cool breezes. Remember, though, your neighbors may not love the same music, shows or sounds from a get together, so alert them to your activities. You can also keep the door closed to ensure peace and quiet in the neighborhood and privacy for you. That means you’ll want to be sure the door is functioning properly and safely. This ensures everyone can leave without entering the house or disturbing the neighborhood.
